Magalí Druscovich: “Although Maradona’s health was known to be fragile, his death came as a shock to all of society and the press as well. Minutes after hearing the news, Maradona’s fans began to gather in places that are emblematic in his life, especially the places where he played. The Argentinos Juniors stadium was one of those. The agency’s team of photographers got organized quickly and we placed ourselves at the essential points. The grief and shock were palpable. In the stadium, where an improvised sanctuary was erected, there was silence, applause, crying, shouting, singing; all at the same time. The fans paraded and left candles, photos, souvenirs, T-shirts. I photographed everyone, but this man approached in silence, wept silently, and hugged Maradona in a farewell that seemed eternal.”
