Reuters ahead with Boeing and Qatar Airways airplane deals; market reacts

Reuters was ahead with details of two major Boeing deals signed by Qatar Airways on Jan 31. On Jan. 25, Reuters was first to report advanced talks to help Boeing launch a new 777X freighter, including the quantity of 34 airplanes. On Jan. 31, Reuters broke the news that the deal, to be signed at the White House that day, would also include a surprise $7 billion order for 737 MAX passenger jets from the same airline. Reuters has been consistently ahead with news on a new freighter since June 2021, revealing that Boeing was offering the proposed 777X cargo plane.

Market Impact

Boeing shares extended gains and closed up 5.1% after the deals were confirmed, with more than half of the gains following the unexpected 737 MAX announcement.
