Reuters details how the pandemic has hastened AI and use of robots in manufacturing in Japan

Reuters detailed how the pandemic is forcing Japanese manufacturers to reverse the much-vaunted ”genchi genbutsu” methodology in which workers constantly monitored all aspects of the production line to spot irregularities, and made quality control one of the last human hold-outs in otherwise automated factories. Now, the coronavirus has spurred the increased use of robots and other technology for quality control, including remote monitoring which was already being adopted before the pandemic.
