Reuters exclusively reports Canada confirms airline aid plans after Reuters exclusive

Reuters reported exclusively that Canada is finally close to an aid package for airlines that will likely offer low-interest loans to carriers versus taking outright stakes, eight months after the COVID-19 pandemic decimated air travel. Several countries, including the U.S., have offered billions in direct emergency support to their airlines. But Canada – the world’s second largest country by area and one heavily dependent on airline travel to connect remote regions – has not. Transport Minister Marc Garneau later issued a statement saying the government is ready to start talks with the airlines on financial aid that could come in the form of loans or other support.
