Reuters first to report Canada PM Trudeau planning snap election, seeks approval for COVID response

Reuters was first to report that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to call a snap election for Sept. 20, with an announcement expected on Aug. 15. Citing sources familiar with the situation, Reuters reported that Trudeau was seeking an election midway through his second term to secure a majority in the Parliament. Confirming the Reuters report, Trudeau met with the Governor General on Aug. 15 and asked for the dissolution of the Parliament and set the election date for Sept. 20.
