Reuters correspondents got the first reaction from WTO chief Pascal Lamy on Nov 20 to a call by the G20 group of leading economies for a major push to finish the Doha round of tariff liberalisation talks. Correspondents tracked down the World Trade Organisation’s Lamy at a meeting in Siem Riep, Cambodia that no other major news organisations attended. Lamy told Reuters exclusively on Nov 20 that he would try to hold a major negotiating session by the year’s end, though he cautioned against over-optimism. The Doha negotiations have been long-delayed and the G20 called for faster progress to help inject vigour into the sagging global economy.
