Full coverage of Singapore airshow
Reuters reporters were on the ground at the Singapore Airshow, providing comprehensive coverage from all angles. Highlights include how Airbus and Boeing’s maintenance push is forcing incumbents to rethink strategies, how U.S. and Israeli drone makers are keeping a wary eye on rising Chinese versions and how planemakers are looking at higher output to meet demand.
Russian medalist at Games suspected of doping
Reuters was ahead of the competition in reporting Russian medalist Alexander Krushelnitsky is suspected of having tested positive for a banned substance at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Krushelnitsky, a bronze-medalist along with his wife in mixed-doubles curling, is suspected of having tested positive for meldonium, which increases blood flow, improving exercise capacity in athletes. Reuters also caught up with Thomas Ulsrud, the skipper of the Norwegian team denied bronze, who spoke of his disappointment for his teammates who had already left for home. Additionally, Reuters scored a late night comment from the IOC on the case.
Trump administration may target immigrants who use food aid, other benefits
Reuters reported exclusively that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has drafted rules that would make it harder to win permanent residency for immigrants who use public benefits, such as food assistance or pre-school care for children – a move that could sharply restrict legal immigration.
Russia airplane crash
Reuters delivered a compelling file on the Saratov Airlines plane crash outside Moscow – including a live shot unrivalled by the competition which provided a close-up view of investigators searching the crash site and debris from the crash on a snow-covered field. Reuters also secured access to dramatic security camera footage that captured the moment the Antonov-148 jet hit the ground soon after taking off.
