Reuters ahead with news Chile’s Piñera survives Senate impeachment vote

Reuters was ahead of the competition with the news that Chile’s center-right President Sebastián Piñera had survived an impeachment vote in the Senate, which could have roiled the world’s top copper producer. The vote over allegations of irregularities in the sale of a mining firm had already passed the lower house and moved to a definitive vote in the upper chamber. The Senate vote fell short of a two-thirds majority, or 29 votes, needed in order to oust Piñera, who is set to leave office in March next year. Chileans will vote in presidential elections on Nov. 21, in which Piñera is not a candidate.
