Reuters reported exclusively from Afghanistan that even before any reduction in U.S. forces in the country linked to peace talks with Taliban insurgents, the number of troops stationed there could get cut by more than 1,000 as a result of an effort to make better use of U.S. resources in the 17-year effort. U.S. President Donald Trump told Congress this month he intended to reduce U.S. forces in Afghanistan as negotiators make progress in talks with Taliban insurgents, saying: “Great nations do not fight endless wars.”
