Reuters reported that U.S. authorities secretly tracked activities of Chinese telecoms equipment producer Huawei long before President Donald Trump’s trade war with Beijing cast the spotlight on the practices of China’s tech giants and their relationship with Chinese authorities. The U.S. focus on Huawei intensified after years of investigation into smaller Chinese rival ZTE Corp, and relied in part on information collected from devices of company employees traveling through airports.
