Reuters dominated news coverage of India’s new foreign investment curbs for the e-commerce sector in recent weeks, which dealt a massive blow to Walmart and Amazon’s ambitions in India. The rules forced the companies to change their business structures from Feb. 1 and led to an unsuccessful lobbying effort from the companies and the U.S. government. India refused to budge and on Feb. 1, Amazon removed numerous products from its India website. Reuters was first to report on the possible impact of the policy, the lobbying effort from Washington and the companies, as well as the midnight impact on Amazon when it started removing its products.
