Reuters reveals SEC’s internal watchdog kept job despite ‘serious misconduct’ finding

Reuters broke the news that the inspector general at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Carl Hoecker, was himself under an investigation – one that concluded in 2019 with a recommendation that the agency consider firing him for “serious misconduct.” The agency instead decided to suspend Hoecker without pay temporarily. He is now back on the job as the Wall Street regulator’s internal watchdog.
