Social media platforms, such as Meta’s (META.O) Instagram, ByteDance’s TikTok, and Snap Inc.’s Snapchat, require users to be at least 13 years old to protect the privacy and safety of young children. Social media companies are responsible for setting age limits on their platforms, but under the long-awaited Online Safety Bill they will be required by law to uphold these limits, with those failing to uphold their terms of service facing fines up to 10% of their annual turnover. |
