Keeping journalists’ safety and wellbeing at the forefront

With the coronavirus pandemic and protests dominating headlines around the world, journalists are covering the outbreak from all corners of the world and from every news angle. Journalists are undoubtedly, informing audiences about the most important news story of our time.

Supporting the health, wellbeing and safety of journalists is an organizational priority at Reuters. During these challenging times, the importance of addressing mental health, stress and safety concerns of all journalists is paramount.

Join Reuters for a webinar with a team of senior leaders sharing how our approach to mental health, resilience and safety has evolved – from supporting journalists through the challenges of covering the protests to managing risk during COVID-19 assignments.

Reuters Global Managing Editor Simon Robinson will lead a discussion with Reuters General Manager, Global Logistics & Security, Mike Christie and Reuters HR Business Partner, Roz Orchard, exploring insights into how Reuters supports the wellbeing and safety of journalists.

Kristin Neubauer is a producer for Reuters Video News based in Washington. She has been with Reuters on the Latin American desk since 2003.

Kristin was among the first Peers to join the Peer Network when it formed in 2015. She became the Global Coordinator in 2018.

Mike Christie is General Manager, Global Logistics & Security for Reuters. Mike leads security in the field of Reuters 2,500 journalists, and is responsible for putting together safety protocols, organizing hostile environment training, supplying safety equipment and managing editorial’s global trauma program. He has been with Reuters for 20+ years, previously serving as a correspondent or bureau chief in bureaus ranging from Baghdad to Brasilia.

Roz Orchard is an HR Business Partner for Reuters. Roz supports the strategic people agenda for Reuters including newsroom mental health and wellbeing programs and initiatives. She has been with Thomson Reuters for 5 years, working in several business segments within the company before moving into the Reuters news business. Previous to Thomson Reuters Roz worked in HR within the energy industry and has post graduate qualifications in HR, Counselling Psychology and Sustainable Business.

Simon Robinson is Reuters Global Managing Editor, Newsroom. He joined the news service in 2010 and ran investigations and enterprise reporting in Europe, Middle East and Africa for six years, editing award-winning series on Iran, Russia, corporate taxation, Greek banks and migration. Between 2017 and 2019 he was Regional Editor for EMEA, running our single biggest region and overseeing everything from breaking news to budgets.

Between 1995 and 2010, Simon was a correspondent and then editor for Time magazine, reporting from more than 50 countries in Africa, South Asia, the Middle East and Europe. He has published short stories and wrote and produced an award-winning satirical movie about aid workers and journalists in Africa.
