Reuters reveals how secret meetings in Pakistan exposes obstacles to Afghan peace talks

Reuters was first to report that Pakistan delivered a blunt message to the Afghan Taliban during secret discussions: end the rift between your top leaders, or peace talks might never get off the ground. The warning was a reminder of how tough it will be to get insurgents and the Afghan government around the same table. Even with help from Pakistan – the Taliban’s backer that still wields influence over them – it will be difficult to form an agreement on lasting peace.
